Tools required :- Spade / shovel, spot board, bucket, wood saw, lump hammer, post / 600mm spirit level and tape measure. Safety tip :- Wear gloves when mixing mortar and concrete as cement can irritate and burn skin. Concrete posts need to be bedded in the ground and set in place using concrete. As a rough guide I would recommend having 25% of the post below ground level to provide good stability and strength. FENCE POSTS

The two most common types of fence post are made from concrete or wood, both are usually around 100mm / 4" square and come in various lengths. Concrete posts are very strong and resistant to inclement weather, but they also tend to be a little more expensive than wood posts and depending on their length can be very heavy and you will probably require help when manoeuvring them into position (see concrete fence posts).
