Before you paste the first strip of wallpaper, use a plumb line and pencil to mark a vertical guideline on the wall, this line should be approximately 1/2" (12mm) away from the edge of the first strip of wallpaper as shown in fig 1 below.    Place the pasting table on top of a dustsheet on the floor and have all your wallpapering tools ready to use nearby. WALLPAPER MEASURING AND PLANNING.

The majority of rolls of wallpaper available are around 33ft (10mtrs) long and 21" (535mm) wide, therefore if the room you are decorating has a ceiling height of approximately 9ft (2760mm) you will be able to cut three drops of wallpaper from each roll. Remember to allow approximately 6" (150mm) per cut length for trimming the top and bottom of the strip of wallpaper when it is stuck in place on the wall. Below is a list of basic tools and equipment required for painting and wallpapering in your home. Tools, etc are becoming cheaper for the DIY decorator and there is a huge choice available in most DIY stores.
