  • USING A PRESSURE WASHER TO CLEAN PATIOS AND PAVING

Over a period of time, especially the winter months, patios and paving can become coated in very unsightly dirt, slime, moss and fungus.

Using a high pressure water washer is an ideal way to remove it all, leaving your patio / paving looking almost as good as the day it was laid.

There are a lot of pressure washers available in most DIY stores and garden centres in a wide range of prices to suit most budgets. One of the more popular manufacturers is a company called Karcher, who as far as I recall were one of the first suppliers of pressure washers.

Before you start to use your pressure washer read the manufacturers instructions for safe use, brush clean the patio / paving to remove any small stones that will become projectiles if the high pressure jet of water comes into contact with them. Clean the patio / paving in a uniformed manner and try to avoid disturbing soil and plants with the high pressure jet of water.

Pressure washers generally have various settings on the end of the jet nozzle to adjust the level of pressure and the pattern of water jet that comes out, this can vary from a very powerful narrow jet to a more subtle ‘fan’ of water.

Its a great DIY job for the summer months, all you need to wear is a t-shirt, shorts and boots because you will inevitably get wet, if you have a lot of stone / chippings around your patio / paving it is probably wise to wear a pair of safety goggles.
